Tariffs increase

The 1st of July marks the start of the City's new financial year, and this year some things have changed. Tariffs have gone up, and, for the first time in about 15 years, so have the fines.

Books overdue by one week (or part thereof): R 1.00 each
Books overdue by two weeks (or part thereof): R 2.00 each
Books overdue by three weeks (or part thereof): R 3.00
Books overdue by four weeks (or part thereof): R 4.00
Books overdue by five weeks (or part thereof): R 5.00
Books overdue by six weeks (or part thereof): R 10.00
Books overdue by seven weeks (or part thereof): R 11.00
Books overdue by eight weeks (or part thereof): R 12.00
Books overdue by nine weeks (or part thereof): R 13.00
Books overdue by ten weeks (or part thereof): R 14.00
Books overdue by eleven weeks (or part thereof): R 15.00 - this is also the max fine.

DVDs and Videos are fined R 4.00 per day, up to a maximum of R 28.00.

Reservations are now R 4.00 each.

Replacement cards are R 16.00 each.

Holiday visitors may join the library with a temporary holiday card. There is a once-off fee of R 55.00 per "slot" on the card, up to a maximum of three "slots". This allows the visitor to have up to three books on his/her card. Unfortunately, no audio-visual material may be borrowed on this card.

Persons living outside the Cape Town Metropolitan area may join the library for a year, at a charge of R 85.00. This card allows one the same borrow

There is a charge of R 100.00 to hire the hall for business or commercial ventures.

(Cultural and community organisations may use the hall for free, subject to the terms and conditions of library hall usage - Library halls / activity rooms are not to be used for social [e.g. birthday celebrations], political [e.g. rallies], or religious [e.g. church services] events as their primary purpose is to provide a venue for cultural or community events.)
